    Naperville, IL
    A permit is required for all new fence installations in the City of Naperville. Residential fences are limited to a maximum height of 6 feet, or 9 feet along major arterial roads. The finished side of the fence must face away from the property. A plat of survey is required with the permit application.

    HOA rules often supersede city code, requiring separate approval for materials, style, and color.

    DuPage County, IL
    In DuPage County, a building permit is required for fence installation. Fences must generally be set back at least 3 inches from all property lines, and the finished side must face outward. A plat of survey is required as part of the application.

    Local municipalities may have different fence requirements. HOA regulations can also limit your fence choices. Please contact your local building and zoning department and obtain any HOA fence requirements and guidelines prior to exploring your options.
